Every week Euro Puppy showcases a dog lamp. Is it tacky or wacky? We will leave it up to you to decide. While having our own beliefs, we would love your comments…Enjoy….

Silver Retriever Lamp

The lamp for this week is an interesting piece, because we have a Silver Retriever instead of a Golden one :) .

The design is from Judith Edwards and is intended to compliment a library. The books below the lamp are part of it, and heighten the effect of serious study.

Another attribute of this dog lamp is that the shade is made of faux leather, accentuating the effect of soft light. You can fix a 60 watt lamp onto it and it is 2 feet high. Just the right height for a desk to gently illuminate your study!

Scottish Terrier Dog Lamp.

This 14 inch high Scottish Terrier Dog Lamp is perfect for a playful atmosphere in the room. The effect is accentuated by the checkered lamp shade and the ball stem.

The bow tie around the neck of the scottie is a very pretty touch and suggests that the lamp should find a place in a girl’s room. The lamp uses a standard 60 watt bulb, and this makes it good enough to use when reading, or as a stand alone to light a room.

A Porcelain Work of Art.

This week we feature a really interesting lamp. At first glance it doesn’t look to sophisticated until you realize that this puppy lamp is made of translucent porcelain.

In addition, the eyes are made of glass. The best part however, is the perfume chamber behind the neck of the dog where the lamp heats the liquid, diffusing the perfume into the air.

The perfume will be based on Isopropyl alcohol and will therefore be highly flammable. Careful! The originality of this piece is displayed when you look carefully and find tiny pin sized holes in the porcelain that occurred during the firing process.

In addition, the ensure that the porcelain will not crack from the heat, notice the series of holes in the top of his head! A great specimen.

A Dog Lamp for a study!

As soon as I saw this beautiful lamp, the image came to me of the old days, in a nice warm firelit study, with a sheaf of books…and shotguns nearby for hunting!

This fits in very well with that sort of ambiance given the fact that the dog in question is a pointer. Absolutely lovely in conception, the anatomy of the dog is laid out in marvelous detail. The dark wood gives it a lush, serious expression and the pose is superbly executed.

One of the nicest Dog lamps I have seen. Most lamps don’t really come close to depicting all the details of the dog, but this one obviously had a dog lover for a maker.

Hound Lamp.

This Traditional Golden Brown hound is a splendidly carved piece. Standing at 27 inches, it has a bronzed metal finish and perfectly defines the best characteristics of a hunting hound.

Right from the slim waist to the curved tail in action, the figure speaks of an animated moment where the dog is seeking further direction for the hunt. The whole posture exudes the presence of an intelligent animal trying to understand what her master requires from her. The lithe figure and the shapely legs show the hound in her prime.

An asset to any study and any dog lover.

Dog Lamps – Dancing Dogs

This week’s dog lamp is unusual. Instead of depicting a scene from real dog life, it tries to project a human situation onto our furry friends.

Of course, this doesn’t mean it’s not lovely. The two dogs seem to be dancing together, or even taking their vows to swear fidelity to one another! A very pretty scene.

Unfortunately, the website doesn’t give many details about this particular dog lamp, like the material it’s made of. If I had to guess however, I would say it’s porcelain. The price tag is a bit steep at $260. Maybe it has some other significance that we’re not aware of.

But nonetheless, nice to look at, and a funny addition to a dog lover’s home decor.

So? Wacky or tacky? What do you think dear Dog lover?

Kitsch Dog Lamps

At 50 each, these pretty halogen lamps have quite captured our imagination. There’s something unusual about the texture of these playful dog lamps that give a great overall impression when lighted.

Available in many colors including white, red, and orange, each stands just a shy higher than a foot. When lit up, depending on the density of that area, the light shines through in a different hue, and this makes it a very colorful night companion.

Silver Dog Lamp – Mother with pup

This lovely silver dog lamps shows a Whippet Mother who looks as if she’s chastising her pup. The lamp is large – over 2 feet, though the actual dog figurines are just about a foot tall.

It’s expensive though. Selling for just shy of $1500, it’s not something that anyone can just pick off the shelf apart from collectors. It is rather splendid though.

The Whippet is a breed of dog belonging to the sighthound group. They have very little fur, and are great as apartment dogs. Interestingly, the males are as unaggressive as the females.
