Spaying your female dog

May 4, 2011

spayed dogUnless you are planning to breed your female dog, it is not a question whether you should spay her or not. Beyond saving you from unwanted litters, spaying your female dog is proven to decrease the chances of developing mammary cancer and other lethal diseases as this article points out.

The question is rather when is the best time to spay your dog? According to the above mentioned article and most veterinarians, the answer is before sexual maturity. It is easy to admit that if your dog is spayed before her first heat cycle (usually 6 months of age), the chances of accidental pregnancy and unwanted litters are zero, which is great, because the problem of overpopulation shouldn’t be ignored by any responsible pet owner. So the simple answer may seem to be: the sooner the better.

However, unfortunately there is no simple answer. As this publication explains, not denying the overall advantages of spaying, new research shows that female dogs spayed before the age of 6 months are more likely to suffer hormone-related urinary incontinence. Similarly, male dogs neutered at an early age are more likely to suffer from certain diseases than those neutered later on.

It still gets more complicated though, as sterilization (disabling your dog from reproduction) does not necessarily equal spaying (or neutering in male dogs). In modern veterinary practice, it is possible to sterilize your female dog without actually removing the organs responsible for producing the sexual hormones as you’ll find out from this article.

How are you then, the pet owner, to be expected to make an educated decision about spaying your female dog if there doesn’t seem to be a consensus among veterinarians on the issue?

If your number one reason for spaying your dog is avoiding unwanted pregnancy, then you should definitely get it done before the first heat cycle. Otherwise, consult with your vet and see if new research has come up with more evidence on the matter.

30 Day Money Back Guarantee in May

May 2, 2011

30daymoneybackguarantee2011 is a year of partying at Euro Puppy and you are invited! We’ve been celebrating our 10th birthday with different promotions and special offers each month. In February, we launched our 10 Year Satisfaction Guarantee, which has been so successful that we decided to extend it for the whole year. In March, we selected a Puppy Of The Day every week day of the month and gave a massive $500 off. We had a fun video contest in April, and we are ready to continue the celebration in May with a special 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.

We have asked many of our customers in surveys as well as personally about what was the most important thing for them when buying a puppy. The dog’s health always comes in first place. That’s why we thought a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee would give our customers an extra peace of mind that everyone seeks when buying a dog.

If you’ve been following Euro Puppy for some time, you probably know that we are dedicated to only offering top quality and healthy puppies for sale. It is very unlikely that a dog you buy at Euro Puppy gets sick, but with the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, we’re giving you another good reason to find your dream puppy at Euro Puppy. Don’t forget that this is a special promotion for May only!

Video Contest results

April 26, 2011

We are happy to announce that Euro Puppy’s first ever video contest is over and the winner is Charleen Lockhart and their fantastic Syberian Husky, Hachi! Everybody here at Euro Puppy was amazed by Charleen’s video and Hachi’s beauty and vitality so we had no hesitation in awarding them with the prize of our video contest, a year’s worth of dog food! Congratulations Charleen and thank you for taking the time to edit and submit your winning video!

Even though entries didn’t come flooding in, we think the contest was an absolute success! We’ve received many positive comments and a lot of encouraging feedback. A lot more of our customers promised to post an entry than they actually did, but we perfectly understand that with children and dogs around, working full time, one hardly has the time and energy to participate in such contests.

The celebration of Euro Puppy’s 10th birhtday continues with new surprises to look forward to in May. Stay tuned!

The rise of dogs in Saudi Arabia

April 18, 2011

Owning dogs as pets is becoming increasingly popular in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia. As local veterinarians will tell you, more and more
Saudis buy dogs, rather than any other pets, not to mention the growing
expatriate population.

golden retriever

This trend seems to counteract the islam tradition, which considers dogs filthy animals and therefore only allows keeping them for a specific purpose, such as hunting or guarding. The German Shepherd is the most popular dog breed in Saudi Arabia, while many other breeds, including the Labrador, Golden Retriever, Great Dane, Saint Bernard, Collie and the Pug, are also present. You can get a pet dog in pet stores offering puppies for sale in Saudi Arabia, but local breeders are also starting to appear. Still, if you have the means, you are probably better off purchasing your dog abroad, especially if you are looking for a rare breed.

Saudi Arabia
Importing dogs to Saudi Arabia is not exactly hassle free. The Saudi authorities will require a health certificate and a letter from a licensed veterinarian addressed to the Director of Customs, Saudi Arabia. Both documents must be authenticated by the Department of Agriculture Veterinary Service Office and the State Department’s Authentications Office and attested by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. If you want to make the process easy, you’d better hire a company with relevant experience to handle the whole process for you.

Blue Doberman

April 5, 2011

A blue Doberman is a unique sight. If you have seen one in person, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Blue Doberman

Ever wondered why some Dobermans turn out blue? Here is the answer: “Blue” and “fawn” are controlled by the color dilution gene. The blue Doberman has the color gene with at least one dominant allele and the dilution gene with both recessive alleles (i.e., BBdd or Bbdd). If you’d like to get deeper into Doberman genetics, read this

You won’t see many blue Dobermans around, because they are very rarely born in the first place and some people don’t feel like this special color and unique look is worth the risk of a possible skin disease associated with blue Dobermans. Others, however, are constantly on the look out for blue Dobermans. They don’t care about possible skin problems, as they have found working methods to solve them, and they don’t mind paying thousands of dollars for a blue. If you are one of these people, you are in for a treat!

We have a fantastic blue male, called SilverLight, for sale. He is 4 months old and comes from great parents: World Dog Show Winner sire and a beautiful and healthy dam.

Some dedicated blue owners even made Facebook page for blue dobermans. Get SilverLight if you want to join the club!

The party goes on!

April 1, 2011

video contest

The celebration of our 10th birthday focused on
new customers in March by saving them thousands of dollars when they purchased
their first puppies. We received tons of interest in the Puppy Of The Day promotion
and were pleased to see satisfied customers, who got their quality puppies at a
bargain price.

In April, we focus on customers, who already bought a puppy from us by throwing a video contest with a prize
of FREE dog food for a whole year! Wouldn’t it be great if Euro Puppy fed your
dog for a whole year and it wouldn’t cost you a dime?

All you need to win this contest is make the funniest, most
creative or moving video of your dog, while mentioning your dog’s breed, name,
when you got him or her from us, where you live and why you’d recommend Euro
Puppy to other people.

The video should not be longer than 3 minutes and you don’t
need to edit it or anything, just upload it on our Facebook page. By spending a
few minutes filming your dog, you can take care of his or her meals for a whole
year. Not bad, is it?

Try to make your video special in some ways. If your dog can
perform a trick or has a funny habit of snoring, sleeping with eyes open or in
a strange position, film it! If your dog is a couch potato and just cute as is,
that’s fine too.

Don’t forget to introduce your dog, to say where you live
and why you’d recommend Euro Puppy to others.

Before you grab the camera, please read the details of
the contest. If you have any questions, feel free to email us any time.

Denver, the guilty dog

March 29, 2011

Now what is that if not a cute Labrador showing signs of guilt, because she ate something she was not supposed to?

This video has become a meme and spread throughout the internet like wildfire. This one copy only has – so far – generated 6 million views and there are several other instances of it adding hundreds of thousands of views.

The owners of Denver, the guilty dog, didn’t hesitate to make a Facebook page and create a website and start selling t-shirts of Denver to fulfill the many requests they have apparently received. Part of the money goes to charity, as the website says.

Denver’s performance really is cute and she deserves to be the star of the month just for pulling that adorable grin

On the other hand, according to a 2009 Science Daily article Alexandra Horowitz, Assistant Professor from Barnard College in New York, uncovered the origins of the “guilty look” in dogs.

During the study, owners were asked to leave the room after ordering their dogs not to eat a tasty treat. While the owner was away, Horowitz gave some of the dogs this forbidden treat before asking the owners back into the room. Some of the owners were told that their dog had eaten the forbidden treat, others were told their dog had behaved properly and left the treat alone. However, what the owners were told, wasn’t always true.

Whether the dogs’ behavior included elements of the “guilty look” had little to do with whether the dogs had actually eaten the forbidden treat or not. Dogs looked most “guilty” if they were told off by their owners for eating the treat (even if they hadn’t). In fact, dogs that had been obedient and had not eaten the treat, but were scolded by their (misinformed) owners, looked more “guilty” than those that had, in fact, eaten the treat. Thus the dog’s guilty look is a response to the owner’s behavior, and not necessarily indicative of any appreciation of its own misdeeds.

In other words, if a dog gets told off he will look guilty regardless of whether ha has done anything wrong.

Whether this is what happened in Denver’s case or she really did recognize the empty bag of treats and that’s why she looked guilty is not for us decide, I’d love to hear your opinion on this story and the study conducted by Alexandra Horowitz!

New payment page!

March 24, 2011

payment page

You made a suggestion, we listened and implemented! As a result a new payment page makes it much easier to reserve or fully purchase a puppy.

We have always believed that our website will serve our customers best if they tell us how it should work. That’s why, on the basis of the feedback we received from the latest customer satisfaction survey, we simplified the payment process. Sometimes we get tons of inquiries for a puppy even after it is reserved. With the new payment page you can reserve a puppy 24/7 and make sure no one else takes it.

The new process allows you to select an export pedigree if you want and it will also calculate the shipping cost of your puppy, giving you the total amount due. You can choose to pay a deposit or pay in full with PayPal or bank wire, which are the two most secure online payment methods. It usually takes a couple of days for the wire transfer to come through, whereas PayPal payments are immediate.

We hope you’ll find this improvement useful and would like to encourage you to post a comment or email us with any of your suggestions in the future too.

Safe Shipping

The regulations of each country regarding the transportation of live animals varies greatly. However, our 10 years experience of shipping dogs to over 80 countries makes us your best option to have your dog shipped. We fully comply with the regulations of each destination and make our dog's well-being the number one priority at all times. Our dogs get food and water during their travel and their crates are cleaned in an animal holding facility. They travel in a climate controlled room on the airplane, which insures that they are effected by the journey as little as possible.

Free Microchip

At Euro Puppy, every dog comes with an ISO compatible microchip ($30 value) at no extra cost. Microchipping is now an international standard and is no more painful than a vaccination. The microchip can normally be detected between the shoulder blades of the dog. In the US, AVID chips are used and AVID chip readers will not detect the ISO compatible microchips. Please make sure your reader can read ISO compatible chips.

Great value for money

You will find our service to provide great value for money, as our prices include:

  • veterinary certificate,
  • up-to-date vaccination,
  • deworming,
  • pet passport,
  • microchip,
  • airline approved crate
  • and 10 year satisfaction guarantee.

You get the all this, plus a fury little thing you'll love for life.

Free Airline Approved Crate

Airlines have strict regulations regarding the dimensions and quality of the crates allowed on board. The crate must be escape and leak-proof. It must be ventilated on at least two sides and must provide enough room for the dog to stand up and turn around. We make sure to provide the right crate ($75 value) for your puppy at no extra cost.

Veterinarian checked

In addition, the official, on duty veterinarian at the airport checks each dog to make sure it is healthy and fit to travel. This is how all of our puppies are double checked before they travel.

10 Year Satisfaction Guarantee

We guarantee your satisfaction for 10 years! That may sound crazy, but it's true. See The Guarantee.
