Small Dog Breeds…..Great For Apartment life…

ann

Just because you live in a small home or apartment doesn’t mean you can’t have a dog. There are a lot of small toy and companion breeds that can make excellent pets for people with small flats or homes. However, you should remember that even small dogs like variety and exercise, so be prepared to take your small dog for walks. Once you have made that commitment to yourself, you can choose which breed of dog is most suitable to you and your lifestyle.

Small dog breeds make the cutest puppies, and one of the cutest small dog puppies around is the Maltese. This popular small dog breed usually only grows no more than six or seven pounds in weight. It has a beautiful white coat. The Maltese is a very ancient dog breed and has a strong constitution. However, don’t keep it in very hot areas, due to its thick coat. This is a very playful little dog. A Maltese makes a great companion if you like lively little pets and enjoy the grooming chores as well.

Another very cute long haired small dog breed is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel . This lovely small dog is as elegant as its name and weighs about twice as much as a Maltese. The Cavalier is a friendly small dog that gives a lifetime of loyal attachment. This is the ideal dog if you prefer to lead a quiet life.

Top of the line in long haired small dog breeds is the Lowchen. If you enjoy spending long hours brushing, and don’t mind the hefty price tag of this little dog, then the Lowchen is for you. The beautiful `Little Lion’ dog can cost anything from $1000 and upwards. The Lowchen is a true indoors and it also seems to suffer from`separation anxiety’ so don’t get this dog breed if you are away for long hours every day.

If you prefer a little dog with a shorter coat, then a Miniature Fox Terrier can be your pooch. This lively little dog needs lots of exercise, and appreciates having a collection of toys. Fox terriers can be yappy, so your pet may need to go to obedience school if she annoys the neighbors. This is a healthy and low maintenance breed, suitable for the owner who just wants to enjoy having a pet without all fuss associated with long coats and grooming.

If you are looking for an elegant breed, then the sleek, short-haired Italian greyhound is the breed to think about. If you enjoy exercise, then this is the dog breed for you. The Italian greyhound is a very well behaved dog, but prone to stress, so it is not a suitable pet where there are small children. This dog breed grows to a height of about 15 inches but is very lightweight – around 5 pounds.

The Dachshund and the Yorkshire Terrier are also big favorites in the US; as well as the Havanese, which thanks to its hypoallergenic coat is a great companion dog for asthma and allergy sufferers. Most small breeds look for comapnionship. That is why their group-name is called: “Companion dogs”. They make wonderful family members for small apartments, but keep in mind that if you spend a lot of time away from home, perhaps you should think twice about getting a pet anyway!

Popular dogs in the Middle East

Sandor Fagyal

Many people would think that the weather in countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain or Qatar might be too hot for dogs so they are very rare in the region. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Even though the circumstances are not ideal for breeding, dogs are increasingly popular in the Middle East.

The two main reasons why people in the Middle East own pets are protection and pleasure.

The classic protection breeds like the German Shepherd and Rottweiler are very popular, but there seems to be more and more demand for less known breeds such as the Cane Corso and Caucasian Mountain Dog. These breeds have a natural inclination to guard the territory they live in and the people they regard as family.

The mighty Cane Corso

There is an important distinction to make between protection or guard dogs and watchdogs. While smaller breeds can also act as watchdogs to alert the family in case of danger, guard dogs must be big and intimidating enough to threaten the possible intruder to the point of retreat.

The second popular dog type in the Middle East is best described as family pets. This group includes the English and American Cocker Spaniel, who have been given the “Merry Cocker” nickname as they are continuously happy and wagging their tail. The one thing they have in common with other small or medium sized breeds such as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Maltese, Havanese or Bolognese, is that they can cheer you up just by their presence and they are great with children which makes them the perfect family pet.

Wherever you are in the world and whatever breed you may fall in love with, always make sure that you buy a healthy puppy with the necessary documents and vaccinations from a trusted source like Euro Puppy.

Dog Art: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Paintings

ann

Artist, Sarah Theophilus’ distinctive style as well as her passion for dogs take the contemporary approach to the tradition of pet portraits much further. Her dog paintings capture the candid, the intense, and the more quirky nature of our beloved companions. Her art can be seen at Pet Portraits in Pastel.

Meagan the Cavalier

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small spaniel with a coat of substantial silky hair of moderate length, often with a mild wave. Four colours are recognized: Black and Tan;Tri-colored; consisting of black, white and brown; Red or also known as Ruby colored, and a color classification called Blenheim, which is chestnut brown on white. The breed originated in the 20th century. Its roots can be found in the older King Charles Spaniel of the Restoration. The goal of the breeders was to get back the origianal longer limbs and straighter nose of the very first King Charles Spaniel. Over the years there were numerous crossings with Asian toy breeds like the pug, and the king Charles Spaniel developed a puggish muzzle. This puggish muzzle is what the breeders of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel wanted to breed away. What came to be, was a stunning little dog, that resembled the first dog of King Charles and became a favorite pet worldwide.

Healthy and Happy Puppies Find Loving Homes in the Far-East!

While successfully integrating itself into the Middle-Eastern minds, the Far-East has also proved to be a market with wonderful potentials for Euro Puppy. With many success stories in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, China (Hong Kong) and Japan, Euro Puppy can now safely say, that they are the top provider of the highest quality European puppies from the best European breeders! A satisfied customer saw the arrival of his much-awaited French Bulldog in Singapore. Although regulations made it impossible for him to immediately take his puppy home, as one month quarantine was compulsory, the little French Bulldog found a loving home with his Singaporean family after 30 days. Euro Puppy has a loyal customer in Hong Kong as well, who has come back not once, not twice, but four times to Euro Puppy, to expand her “collection” Tibetan Mastiffs! She is often stopped by locals, and she is told that her dogs are some of the best Tibetan Mastiffs in Hong Kong! The satisfied owner remarks: “I am very proud to say that my four Tibetan Mastiffs are the top of their breed, here in Hong Kong. Euro Puppy only gives the Best. I am lucky to have found Euro Puppy and I am happy to have this wonderful breed!” Her dogs are non-aggressive as well, while the ones born in China seem to be. Euro Puppy’s top European breeders have taken the aggression out of this mammoth-sized breed to make them loving family members and astute guard-dogs as well. Another Euro Puppy puppy to have arrived to Hong Kong is the rather rare and large Hungarian Komondor breed that goes by the name of “White Rock”. The Far East

Recently two Irish Wolfhounds arrived to their Japanese home as well. After some red-tape, the Japanese Government finally approved the importation of these goliath dogs that originate from Ireland. Japan has very strict regulations about canines, due to their fear of rabies. But these muscular and massive dogs have finally arrived to their destination after waiting three months for the “go-ahead” to come from Japan! One must definitely also mention the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that found a very loving home in Thailand. This little dog found fame overnight! Upon his arrival, he became the cover of the best-selling pet magazine in Thailand! “Anton” is the name he answers to and he has not only appeared in shows but he has won numerous titles as well. Apart from this little guy, other large-bodied breeds like the Neapolitan Mastiff have also found wonderful new homes on numerous occasions in Thailand and the rest of the Far-East. Sandor Fagyal

Amanda Bynes has wowed teenage audiences for years. She is the fifth highest paid celebrity under 21, and has starred in movies like “She’s the man” and “Hairsprays”

Here we see her with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Aptly named “Charlie“.

Amanda Bynes's dog

The King Charles Spaniel is often called “The Ultimate Lap Dog”. It is one of the most affectionate breed of dogs and meshes very well with other breeds. It is noted for it’s friendliness towards other dogs several times it’s size. This can sometimes work to it’s disadvantage as it doesn’t always realize that all other dogs don’t share the love so much!

They are extremely social and are therefore very demanding of constant care and affection.
