Contrary to popular perception, Pit Bulls feel pain just like any other dog. Breeders have tried to make the dog ignore pain or discomfort in order to get the job done, and this is the reason why some people think they feel no pain.

They don’t “Lock their Jaws” either.

Pit Bulls suffer from an unjustified reputation for extreme aggression, and there are several myths regarding them. While it is true that they have historically been bred to be fighting dogs, and have the ability to ignore pain and try and complete their task regardless, they are just like any other dog, and are primarily a product of their environment.

It becomes a self perpetuating myth that they are aggressive, and media reports don’t help either.

Hope for Fighter Dogs

It’s a great victory for natural justice. When football superstar Michael Vick pleaded guilty to running a dog fighting operation, 50 pit bulls were condemned to die.

However, instead of going by the stereotype of pit bulls, judge Henry E. Hudson decided that each dog will be individually evaluated, to decide it’s temperament. On evaluation, only one had to be put to sleep, as it was deemed irredeemably aggressive.

A real ray of hope for those believe in a second chance!
