Its expression is noble and dignified. This dog breed has an outstanding ability as a scent hound, superior to other dogs, which has made the Bloodhound very useful in police investigations. It is so determined that it has been known to stay with the trail for over 100 miles and is said to have successfully followed trails over 100 hours old.

The Bloodhound is determined, responsive, gentle, affectionate, and sensitive. This is a kind, patient, noble, mild-mannered and lovable dog. It is very energetic outdoors and boisterous when young. This breed tends towards willfulness; it needs firm, but gentle obedience training.
