The Lhasa Apso have originally been bred to alert buddhist monks when stranger were approaching the monastery. As a result Lhasa Apsos have great sense of hearing and they tend to be wary or even agressive with strangers, boasting a loud bark defying the size of the breed.
In some situations completely fearless, Lhasa Apsos can also get emotional at times and often show their happiness by rolling around, sitting on their owners feet and rubbing their heads on their owners. It is affectionate with its master, but will not tolerate rough or badly behaved children. While it is not a traditional lapdog, its happy, active, adventurous and amusing nature makes it desirable.
