No, it is not necessary. You can remove it by opening the /wp-content/themes/Blue-Dog-1/sidebar.php file and delete lines 79-93.

Change the images/header.jpg to images/header.png in the style.css file

I downloaded your theme but it has come up without any header at all! Please Help!! What do I do now? I tried the advice given above, but in my style css file it looks exactly as it should (without the /)
