FCI Group III.: Terriers
Welsh Border Terrier, Cowley Terrier
The Sealyham Terrier is the embodiment of power and determination, ever keen and alert, yet free from clumsiness. Resembling the wire fox terrier, they are playful, with an eager to please, outgoing, friendly attitude.
They also have their own sense of humor and make delightful companions. Sealyham Terriers are sometimes known as the couch potato as they require less exercise than most terriers.
The Sealyham Terriers are loyal, loving, independent, spirited, and affectionate. They are brave little dogs. It has been described as “the most beautiful union between cheerfulness and courage.” They are reserved with strangers, fairly independent, and generally good with other pets, although they can get very dog-aggressive.
They like to bark. The Sealyham is good at catching mice and rats. They are best with older children who are considerate of dogs. Sealyhams are “pack” dogs. They appreciate being a key part of a family and welcome companionship with other dogs.
They have a long, hard and wiry coat, with a weather-resistant undercoat. Professional trimming or stripping is needed. They have a medium-long coat and their tails are customarily docked. They shed little to no hair.
Problemas de Salud
This breed is fairly healthy. They are moderately prone to eye problems, skin allergies, and deafness. To minimize the risk of your dog developing any hereditary health issues, you should buy a Sealyham terrier puppy from a reputable breeder.
Condiciones de Vida
Because of its size, the Sealyham Terrier is ideal for people living in apartments with small yards. However, it prefers cool climates, because of its dense coat.
