How to Import a Dog to Qatar from Hungary

Key Import Requirements

Minimum Age

  • Puppies must be at least 7 months old at the time of import. This is due to vaccination and rabies antibody testing timelines.

Microchip

  • Your dog must be microchipped with an ISO-compliant (ISO 11784/11785) chip.
  • The microchip number must be recorded on all documents, including vaccination records.

Vaccinations

  • Rabies vaccination: Administered at least 30 days before entry, and not more than 12 months before import.
  • DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) vaccination: Up-to-date, with the last vaccine given more than 30 days and less than 1 year before import.

Rabies Antibody Titre Test (RATT)

  • Blood sample for the rabies titer test must be taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination.
  • There is a mandatory 90-day waiting period after the blood draw before import is allowed.
  • The titer result must be at least 0.5 IU/ml, and the test must be performed at an approved laboratory.
  • The test must be completed within 12 months before entry.

Import Permit

  • An import permit from Qatar’s Department of Animal Resources is required. It is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. Our local agent can arrange this on your behalf for a fee.

Health Certificate

  • A government health certificate must be issued by an authorized veterinarian in Hungary within 14 days before arrival.
  • The certificate must confirm your puppy is healthy, free from contagious diseases, and fit to travel.

Other Requirements

  • Only one pet per passport/Qatar ID is allowed.
  • All documents must match your puppy’s microchip information.
  • Dogs must arrive through Hamad International Airport, Doha.

Dog Breeds Banned or Restricted for Import into Qatar

Certain breeds are restricted or banned from import into Qatar. Please consult with us or the local agent for the latest list and advice if your puppy is a breed such as Boxer, Bulldog, Rottweiler, Pug, Great Dane, Doberman, Shar-Pei, or Japanese Akita, as these may be refused entry.

When choosing a puppy from Euro Puppy expenses and services such as puppy crate, all health and shipping paperwork and airport clearance are included in this price.


If all the dog shipping rules mentioned above are in order, then no quarantine is required.

However, all dogs are placed in a special facility temporarily at the Hamad International Airport before clearing customs.


Only a relocation company, such as EuroPuppy, can book your dog’s ticket. You can travel on the same flight, but only if you book a separate ticket for yourself.

Dogs can only be transported in the aircraft cargo hold. The hold is specially equipped and pressurized for safety and well-being. Your dog will be in a travel crate with space for them to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably.
