Dogo Argentino, Argentinian Mastiff
The Dogo Argentino is an elegant, graceful, well-balanced dog. It is heavy-boned and incredibly muscular, with a large head, strong neck and deep, broad chest giving the appearance of incredible strength.
The Dogo Argentino is loyal to the family, playful and intelligent; it is an excellent guardian of the home. This breed enjoys human companions and is happiest when close to its owners.
The Dogo Argentino is a highly intelligent, sensible and stable breed. While gentle with its family, it is ruthless with its prey and so should be considered potentially dangerous.
It makes an excellent guard dog. Socialization and obedience training at an early age is a must. It does not seem to understand harsh treatment, force training or an unpleasant attitude in humans and can become stubborn when exposed to such behavior.
It likes to be included in all family activities. It is good with children and loves to kiss and cuddle with those the family accepts. It is highly intelligent; it is easy to train. The Dogo Argentino is not a breed for everyone.
This powerful dog needs a firm and consistent, but loving hand. Adult dogs can be aggressive with other dogs however; it does not usually provoke the confrontation. It is good with other pets if it is raised with them from puppy hood; it needs early socialization with other animals.
The short white coat has no undercoat. The coat is very short and thick, smooth and glossy. The single white coat is very easy to care for and has no doggy odor. Pay special attention to the nails, as they tend to grow very fast and therefore need frequent clippings. This breed is an average shedder.
Problemas de Salud
Generally it’s a healthy breed, but cases of hip dysplasia can occur. To help prevent the chance of hip dysplasia developing make sure your dog is on a healthy, well proportioned diet, and avoid excessive running and jumping while still a puppy as this can be hard on the developing joints. Because of their short, white coat, skin allergies can be common, always consult your vet if skin allergies persist However, to make sure that you get a healthy puppy, you should buy a Dogo Argentino puppy from a reputable Dogo Argentino breeder.
Condiciones de Vida
Dogos will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised and does best with at least an average-sized yard. It can lay quiet for hours in the home, and sleep on its owners lap. Be sure to bring the Dogo inside when temperatures drop below freezing.
