St. Hubert's Hound, Chien St. Hubert
The Bloodhound (also known as the St. Hubert hound and Sleuth Hound) is a large, massive, powerful dog breed with loose, wrinkled skin and drooping ears. It stands over more ground than is usual with hounds of other breeds. Its skin is thin and extremely loose.
The Bloodhound is a gentle dog breed; it does well with children and family pets. Its expression is noble and dignified. This dog breed has an outstanding ability as a scent hound, superior to other hound, which has made the Bloodhound very useful in police investigations.
Its back is extraordinarily strong for the dog’s size. Its powerful shoulders allow the dog to work for long hours without a break. It has a tenancy to drool, but is otherwise a very clean dog.
Temperamento
The Bloodhound is determined, responsive, gentle, affectionate, and sensitive. This is a kind, patient, noble, mild-mannered and lovable dog. It makes an excellent companion to children. It is very energetic outdoors and boisterous when young. This breed tends towards willfulness; it needs firm, but gentle obedience training.
The Bloodhound becomes devoted to its master and gets along well with people. The Bloodhound can live in harmony with other dogs and household pets. It has a tendency to howl, snore, and drool. It may sniff inappropriately or wander off on the trail of an interesting scent.
The Bloodhound is able to follow any scent, even human, which is a rare ability in a dog. This breed has been said to successfully follow trails over 100 hours old. Bloodhounds are so determined that they have been known to stay with the trail for over 100 miles. This breed is used worldwide for rescue and criminal searches. The Bloodhound’s evidence is admissible in the court of law. The Bloodhound cannot be walked off leash, when it gets on a scent it flees; its instinct drives it to find the end of the trail.
Colores
Abrigo
It has smooth, short and weatherproof coat. It is easy to groom. Groom with a hound glove, and bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder. It requires periodic brushing.
Problemas de Salud
The Bloodhound is susceptible to suffering from a twisted stomach, preventatives include feeding two or three small meals a day instead of one large one and avoiding exercise immediately after meals. It is prone to hip dysplasia. To help prevent the chance of hip or elbow dysplasia developing make sure your dog is on a healthy, well proportioned diet, and avoid excessive running and jumping while still a puppy as this can be hard on the developing joints. Some can get entropion, where the eyelids turn inward, and ear infections; regular ear and eye checkups at the vet can help mitigate these. To minimize the risk of your Bloodhound developing any hereditary health issues, you should buy a Bloodhound puppy from a reputable breeder.
Condiciones de Vida
This dog breed can adapt to an apartment if sufficiently exercised. However it would be better if it had a yard to play and exercised in. It is relatively inactive indoors and laid back.
